Lithuania begins construction of military campus for German brigade

VILNIUS, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — Lithuania began constructing a military campus for the German brigade on Monday in the Rudninkai training area, under a 125-million euro contract signed in early August.
Nils Hilmer, state secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry of Defense, said the deployment of the German brigade in Lithuania is one of the biggest projects undertaken by the German army.
About 80 percent of the German brigade will be stationed at the future military campus in Rudninkai. The new campus will feature 120 buildings, helipads, training fields, marshaling areas and more than 10 km of internal roads. ■
